The Glass Age Diaries | Yokohama December 10 2024

Everything is in its place, just as I left it. both in Minatomirai and the tiny apartment he lives in.

Dealing with this. Parenting Taiga from afar is my single biggest challenge.

RAINBOWS NEVER END

Tonight I was reminded of the fragility and extent of the task I face. The flight itself is arduous. Scheduled at 14.5 hours, going the long way around Russia due to the war, today they did it in 13.5 hours But I was a zombie on arrival.

For the first time in four years, immigration took me to one side to an empty office. A police officer appeared from nowhere, sat at the back of the room and didn’t introduce himself.

Then came the barrage of questions… where are you staying what are you doing, why are you coming and going to Japan so much

He let me go after a while.

But it delayed me and my missed the last bus to Minatomirai.

But Taiga…

– Taiga’s muscles in his torso and arms have strengthened as strong as steel.
– His hands have grown.
– He scored a penalty in his game last weekend.

I massage his feet and tell him how happy I am with him, how hard he has worked and note his achievements this year.

Tomorrow we’ll head to the park after school and play football and baseball, he’ll wear the new kit I brought from England.

My eyelids have rarely felt as heavy as they do now. This sofa bed is not comfortable but I am ready to let go and will be dreaming soon.
