(L-R) John, June, Dan, Tom and Steve
I feel uncomfortable referring to these people as my band…I don’t own them! They are all individuals with specific musical interests and talents. I have thoroughly enjoyed collaborating and would like to thank them for their seemingly endless supply of enthusiasm, commitment and patience with me and my songs. These are interesting people, please follow the links to hear some of their other projects.
June Mori is a classically trained pianist and composer of ambient, soundtrack, electro music. She has collaborated with animators, the BBC and Screaming Culture. We met at the Glee Club in December 2007, where she was performing with Birmingham singer songwriter Dan Gallagher. My senses were stunned by her sensitive, expressive technique and heart-swellingly blissful melodic phrases. June played a central role in the writing/arranging and producing of The Balloon and The Bubble EPs, her melodies shine like morning sunlight on my songs, enabling them to develop and prosper. June’s writing is hooked on melancholy and tinged with reflection; she is at once both a technical and creative force. My personal description of June’s music is ‘instrumental dreampop’, follow the link to find your own…
John Large is a well travelled drummer/percussionist/vocalist and music producer, he is a passionate performer whose musical interests know no boundaries. In rehearsal and recording situations John’
s instinctive rhythmic skills and sensitive awareness of dynamics shine bright. Together with Steve he co-produced the EPs and is currently playing live with me on drums/cajon and backing vocals. Here are some links to bands/artists he has worked with: Thought Gang, Carina Round, Horse, The Bushbury Mountain Daredevils, and James Happenick.
Steve Clarke is an experienced bass player/vocalist and songwriter. He is a great motivator and inside the dark dingy rehearsal room he provided a constant source of energy and inspiration. Arrangement and instrumentation ideas also flow freely from Steve; he co-produced the EPs, and sang backing vocals. He previously toured the world and achieved global chart success with pop/punk act Dum Dums and currently writes and plays in Rogue States.
Tom Bounford is a classically trained violinist with a rock n roll attitude! Alongside orchestral and quartet session work he produces experimental electro/classsical cross over act Audiopoesis that describe themselves as “a string quartet watching bladerunner on the back of a JCB.”
His creative talent can be heard on soaring string lines of ‘It’s Good To Getaway’, ‘We All Feel The Same Pain’ amongst others.
Ryan Pinson is named “the chef” by the band for his creative ability to ‘cook up something out of nothing!’ He recorded and engineered both The Balloon and The Bubble EPs, proving himself to be a truly patient, and inspiring individual. Additional Musicians I have had the pleasure of collaborating with…
Andy Bole is one half of the Mandolin Brothers , guitarist with Fret and Fiddle and has played in some of the finest Acoustic bands, most notably the legendary Bushbury Mountain Daredevils and The Late Night Band. As a well-respected solo artist Andy has produced seven solo albums, which have met with much critical acclaim.
Salene is a violinist/composer/arranger of vast experience over many years of playing all styles including Jazz, Rock, Fusion, Funk, Country, & Bluegrass. She also plays in Jazz/acoustic/swing act Fret and Fiddle with guitarist Andy Bole.
Tariq Quadri inspired me with his fluent, expressive and delicate touch when I saw him play with Rachel’s Basement at the age of 14. It was a great pleasure to welcome him into the studio where he played electric lead guitar on ‘Somewhere I Don’t Want To Go’, ‘Needles, Pins & all Sharp Things’ and ‘Raw State’. In addition to his time with the legendary Birmingham outfit ‘Rachel’s Basement’, Tariq has played with a host of roots/folk and world music artists and is currently gigging with James Happenick
Andy Pell is a melodic and sensitive guitarist and composer of the clean guitar part on ‘Lost The Fight’. He currently plays with James Happenick.
